Was ist das?

Was ist Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a custom-fabricated cap that encases a damaged, decayed, or structurally weakened tooth in its entirety. Crowns restore the tooth's original shape, size, strength, and appearance — and when made from modern zirconia or e.max porcelain, they are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. Crowns are one of the most versatile restorations in dentistry, used to protect root-canal-treated teeth, cover implants, anchor dental bridges, and improve the aesthetics of discoloured or misshapen teeth.

Für wen ist das?

Ist diese Behandlung die richtige für Sie?

Crowns are recommended when a tooth is too damaged to be restored with a filling — typically after severe decay, fracture, or root canal treatment. They are also used to improve the appearance of a tooth that is severely discoloured, misshapen, or undersized. Patients receiving dental implants will need a crown fitted on the implant once healing is complete.

Was Sie bei MEDICUS erwarten können

Wir glauben, dass informierte Patienten bessere Ergebnisse erzielen. Hier ist jeder Schritt Ihrer Dental Crowns Behandlung.

1

Clinical Examination & X-Rays

We take digital X-rays to assess the condition of the tooth root and surrounding bone before recommending a crown. The tooth must be structurally sound enough to support the restoration.

2

Tooth Preparation

Under local anesthesia, the tooth is shaped by removing a thin, even layer of enamel on all surfaces to create space for the crown. The amount removed depends on the crown material chosen.

3

Digital Impression

A digital intraoral scan replaces traditional putty impressions. The precise 3D data is sent directly to our in-house ceramic lab for crown fabrication.

4

Temporary Crown

A provisional crown is placed on the prepared tooth to protect it and maintain your bite while the permanent crown is crafted — typically taking 5–7 working days.

5

Crown Bonding

The permanent crown is tried in for fit, contact points, and shade match. Once confirmed, it is bonded to the tooth using high-strength dental cement and any adjustments are made.

6

Follow-Up Check

We review the crown at your next check-up to ensure optimal comfort, bite alignment, and gum health around the margin.

Nachsorgehinweise

Wie Sie Ihre Behandlung pflegen

Das Befolgen dieser Anweisungen gewährleistet die beste Heilung und ein langlebiges Ergebnis.

1

Avoid hard or sticky foods for the first 24 hours after crown placement

2

Some temporary sensitivity to temperature is normal — it usually passes within 2 weeks

3

Floss daily using a gentle C-shaped motion at the crown margin

4

Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth (bruxism) to protect the crown

5

Visit for check-ups every 6 months — the dentist checks the margin and gum health

6

Contact us immediately if the crown feels too high on your bite or comes loose

I had a veneer pop off and I crunched it and swallowed. I walked into the clinic and they saw me very quickly, discussed the option of another veneer vs a crown. I am a dentist from the USA, so I knew the crown would be better long term. They were professional, efficient, and the result was excellent.

FAQ

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Alles, was Sie über Dental Crowns bei MEDICUS.

How long does the crown procedure take?

Typically two appointments spaced 1–2 weeks apart: the first for tooth preparation and impression, the second for bonding the permanent crown. With same-day CAD/CAM technology, crowns can sometimes be completed in a single visit.

What material is best for a dental crown?

It depends on the tooth location and function. Zirconia is ideal for back teeth due to its strength. E.max porcelain is preferred for front teeth because of its superior aesthetics and translucency. Our dentists will recommend the best material for your specific case.

Does getting a crown hurt?

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. The preparation itself is pain-free. Some patients experience mild sensitivity for a few days after the appointment, which is temporary and manageable.

How do I care for my crown?

Crowns require the same care as natural teeth — regular brushing, flossing, and 6-month dental check-ups. Avoid biting nails, chewing ice, or opening packaging with your teeth, as these habits can chip even strong restorations.

Can a crown fall off?

It is rare but possible, usually due to decay developing under the crown, cement failure, or biting on extremely hard foods. If a crown comes loose or off, contact us immediately and store the crown safely to bring to your appointment.
